The Building Official is available in the office 9:00 to 10:00 am on work days for consultation; other times by appointment.
The Building Department enforces the Connecticut State Building Code. This includes approving building plans for residential and commercial development and performing inspections on all new construction. Staff answer code and administrative questions and provide guidance on the permit process. The Building Department also provides assistance when requested at emergency scenes such as fires and building failures.
The Building Department works closely with the Bloomfield Fire Marshals, who enforce the CT State Fire Code, and with many other related agencies and utilities. The Building Official is a State of Connecticut Licensed Building Official, and is qualified to perform all areas of review, inspection, and enforcement under the State Building Code.
